Dickie Warren's 29th Cougars team; at 885-360 he was Tennessee's winningest coach and fourth among active coaches in the nation. A young club, with eight players new to real minutes, shot 50 percent one night and 30 the next but pleased Warren on defense. 6-3 senior center Jessee Faries (17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds) missed the first three games on a suspension and scored 30 in the last game before Christmas, alongside 6-1 senior post Chad Spires and senior point guard Chad Bentley. Fourth at the Arby's the year before. 6-5 coming in.
